In 2013, LeAnn Rimes performed the “Spitfire” album track “Borrowed” on TV and brought one viewer to tears on her living room floor – Stevie Nicks. The song is a heartbreaking tale of loving someone who you know doesn’t fully belong to you, a message Nicks related with on a deep level. “It was very easy for me to try to be in that same sad, deeply tragic, passionate place where she was when she wrote that song because I had been there. I had lived there for a long time,” Nicks said in an interview with The Associated Press.
Stevie received word that Rimes planned to release a touched-up collection of past hits, and before long the two stars joined to create a duet version of “Borrowed” for the “Re-Imagined” album, released last month. Nicks’ decades of Folk Americana expertise and LeAnn’s country roots complement each other surprisingly well on the track, with Nicks’ soft, low hum giving beautiful weight to Rimes’ bright and feathery vocals.
