1. Is Steve Perry planning a comeback?
A clip of former Journey frontman Steve Perry recording vocals with Toad the Wet Sprocket has many fans wondering if Perry is FINALLY planning to return to music after “retiring” from the industry in 1995.
Toad the Wet Sprocket posted a clip of the collaboration on their social media last week, accompanied by the caption: “What do you say when Steve Perry crashed your tour rehearsal and wants to sing??? YES!”
BOB did some digging and found more activity than just this though! The singer revealed Friday via his official Facebook page that he recorded a CBS Sunday Morning interview, set to air October 7.
Perry has supposedly been working on material for the album for at least five years. It was at one time planned to be released in 2017.
2. Roy Orbinson is going on tour…as a hologram
According to the folks at Austin360, a tour called “In Dreams: Roy Orbison in Concert – The Hologram Tour,” is playing a 28-date North American run with a full live orchestra and of course Hologram Orbinson.
As of now, there are two dates slated for Texas: Oct .24 at the Majestic Theater in Dallas and Oct. 26 at the Smart Financial Centre near Houston.
3. David Bowie’s Long Lost First Demo Has been Discovered
Konrads drummer David Hadfield found something much bigger than bread in his breadbox:! Hadfield fold an original recording of David Bowie’s first ever demo recording as a vocalist. The Konrads, David Bowie’s first band, recorded some of their very first songs together with him as their 16 year-old saxophonist and backing harmony vocalist– or so most people thought. Their original recording of “I Never Dreamed,” features a young David Jones singing lead vocals– the world’s first recording of the teenage saxophonist who would grow up to be David Bowie, singing.
This inaugural rendition was turned down by record label, Decca back in 1963. “We had decided that we would do a couple of guitar instrumentals and one original song,” Hadfield said in a statement. “I chose ‘I Never Dreamed’ as it was the strongest, the other two were a bit weak. I also decided that David was the best person to sing it and give the right interpretation. So this became the very first recording of David Jones singing 55 years ago. There is no other recording of the demo featuring David as lead in existence. Decca initially turned us down, but when they eventually gave us an audition later that year, vocalist Roger Ferris was the lead voice and David sang backing harmonies.”
The demo was thought to be lost in time, until now. Hadfield found the tape in an old breadbox while moving out of his loft in the 1990’s. He kept his discovery under wraps until now. The recording is expected to go for around $13,000 at auction in September.
