Pop icon Madonna will receive the Advocate for Change Award at the 30th annual GLAAD Media Awards on May 4th, 2019.
GLAAD is the world’s largest advocacy media organization for LGBTQ acceptance.
Madonna will be honored for her consistent advocacy to the LGBT community through her music and art.
The pop star’s support started in the very beginning of her music career during the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 1980s.
The 60-year-old singer will be the second person, and first woman, to receive this award. Bill Clinton was the first person to be honored with the Advocate for Change Award back in 2013 for his public support on overturning the anti-LGBTQ Defense of Marriage Act and advancing marriage equality across the nation.
Sarah Kate Ellis, the president and CEO of GLAAD, said Madonna “has and always will be the LGBTQ community’s greatest ally and it is only fitting to honor and celebrate our biggest advocate at GLAAD’s biggest event ever.”
