After 13 years, it is finally happening. Britney Spears is scheduled for a court appearance toady to discuss her conservatorship. Britney’s $60 million estate has been under the control of her father, Jamie Spears, since 2008. The singer lost ownership of her funds after allegedly suffering from mental health issues. During her time under the conservatorship, Spears released four albums and had a four year residency in Las Vegas.
As of now, Britney Spears has never spoken out against her conservatorship. But, the singer has directly stated that she does not want her father in charge.
The public has taken the responsibility into their own hands to save Britney. The movement #FreeBritney gained popularity over the last few years. Fans have even hit the streets to protest on Spears’ behalf.
In February, the documentary Framing Britney Spears detailed the intricacies of Spears’ career and gave insight into her conservatorship. Filmmakers reached out to people close to Spears and lawyers associated with the case to create the documentary.
Spears will meet with a court to address issues with her conservatorship later in the day. Keep up with updates as they come in below.
