Pearl Jam officially confirmed that they are working on a new album, but they’re taking their time on it.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, guitarist Stone Gossard said they’re currently in “the middle of it.” According to Jeff Ament, the bassist of the band, there is some “life stuff,” that has gotten in the way of the album process, including the death of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell.
“I think when Chris passed, that’s really been a tough one to wrap our heads around,” said Ament.
Matt Cameron, the band’s drummer, Gossard and Ament paid tribute to Cornell last week in Los Angeles at the “I Am The Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell” concert.
The passing of Chris Cornell didn’t come easy for the band members. Ament was the creative director for Cornell’s recent box set and helped screen print watercolor images of Cornell.
The Seattle band has a few things on hold for this album. Ament stated that “this a broken record,” and that they have unfinished content they need to work on, “it just hasn’t happened for some reason.”
However, don’t lose hope just yet. Pearl Jam made it clear that they are ready “to keep plugging away until [they] get [a record] done.”
