Jessica Simpson is now four years sober.
The singer and designer shared her personal milestone via social media with an “unrecognizable” photo of herself from 2017.
“This person in the early morning of Nov 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself. I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore,” she wrote. Simpson admitted that she needed to stop drinking alcohol in order to end her “internal battle of self respect.” In full honesty mode, Simpson said her mind and heart were in a set pattern, leading her back “in the same direction.”
“The real work that needed to be done in my life was to actually accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self sabotage. The drinking wasn’t the issue. I was. I didn’t love myself. I didn’t respect my own power.” The artist concluded to say that this milestone led her to be “comfortably open” and “free.”
In Simpson’s memoir, titled Open Book, she reveals that she was sexually abused at 6-years-old. She said the trauma from the childhood abuse and stress from her career prompted her addiction to alcohol and drugs.
