The disco pop icons ABBA have reunited for their first studio album in 40 years, Voyage a 10-track release.
Voyage, marks their first album since 1981 when they released The Visitors, which includes songs such as “Slipping Through My Fingers” and more fan favorites.
The album comes just in time for the groups digital concert event taking place in London next spring.
The concert will be in a custom-built, 3,000-capacity arena at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with holograms of the foursome backed onstage by a live, 10-piece band.
Work on the 10-track album began back in 2018, with recording taking place at Benny Andersson’s studio in Stockholm.
With the levels of expectations ranging from high and low, Andersson, ABBA’s co-songwriter shared with The New York Times, “What is there to prove? They’ll still play ‘Dancing Queen’ next year.”
Regardless of how the album performs among today’s audience, the band relished in the reunion.
“It’s hard to say what’s been the most joyful thing for me with this project,” said Andersson in a statement. “If it’s the involvement in creating the concert together with everyone or being back in the studio together again after 40 years. I think hearing Frida and Agnetha singing again is hard to beat.”
Just as the title entails, Voyage holds true to ABBA’s disco pop roots, as it falls somewhere between the lure of nostalgia and the pull of the present day with a mixture of songs, old and new.
